Bacchus High Tea at Home
A Bacchus High Tea is the perfect way to spoil a loved one or celebrate a milestone occasion. We don't believe this should stop just because we can't serve you ourselves!
Bacchus is proud to serve our first High Tea at Home. As with everything we do, attention to detail is key and whilst limitations and safety precautions are of the highest importance, the little traditions that bring us together are also held close to our hearts. Whether a gift, a pleasant afternoon at home or a mini picnic in the park, we are grateful to serve you.
Tea consumption increased dramatically during the early Nineteenth century and it is around this time that Anna, the 7th Duchess of Bedford is said to have complained of ‘having that sinking feeling’ during the late afternoon. The solution for the Duchess was a pot of tea and a light snack, taken privately in her boudoir during the afternoon. Later friends were invited to join her in rooms at Woburn Abbey and this summer practice proved so popular that the Duchess continued it when she returned to London, sending cards to her friends asking them to join her for ‘tea and a walking in the fields'. Before long all of fashionable society was sipping tea and nibbling sandwiches in the middle of the afternoon.
